We are as Committed to the Health of the Planet as we are
to the Health of our Patients.

Our scientists will tell you, therapies must work in harmony with the body’s natural systems. This same principle holds true as we work to identify ways to minimize our impact on the environment.

Employee Commitment

Employees at our five U.S. locations take an active role in promoting environmental awareness, energy conservation and recycling. Through activities like Green Fairs and Plant Swaps, employees take a grassroots approach to educating themselves, and others about energy efficiency, alternative energy sources, resource conservation measures and the benefits of supporting local farmers. Our volunteer run Employee Energy & Resource Conservation teams work together to identify solutions to eliminate energy and resource wasting activities and processes.

Environmental Stewardship

Boehringer Ingelheim sponsors programs to help ensure that employees and the community are disposing of household items and prescription medications in a way that won’t harm the environment.  Household Hazardous Waste Day provides a means for household chemicals—like cleaning agents, paint, pesticides, etc.— to be disposed of safely and our medication take-back program ensures that expired or unused medications are managed properly to prevent accidental misuse.  In addition, recycling programs enacted desk side through the entire manufacturing process reduce waste and set an example that employees can apply at home.

Our Ben Venue Laboratories site, in Bedford, Ohio was awarded a grant from the State’s Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund to assist with the environmental remediation of several acres of industrial Brownfield sites BVL acquired over the last five years. The goal of the state’s Brownfields program is to improve abandoned, idled, or under-utilized industrial and commercial property to create a sense of possibility and renewal in the community.

Value through Innovation and Education

At Boehringer Ingelheim Chemicals in Petersburg, VA employees regularly participate in educational programs around key environmental issues like CO2 emissions and their impact on global climate change. These sessions help employees better understand the need to develop a national strategy to stabilize global greenhouse gas levels. They also learn about existing technologies and approaches for energy efficiency, carbon free generation, renewable energy sources, and carbon storage.
