Mission Statement

The mission of the Investigator Initiated Studies (IIS) Program for U.S. Investigators is to support the advancement of scientific knowledge regarding Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (BIPI) products and therapeutic areas of interest, through original, investigator-initiated proposals for clinical and health outcomes research.

Investigator Initiated Studies Program for U.S. Investigators

The IIS Program is designed to enable research that has the potential to improve the treatment of disease, patient outcomes and the quality of healthcare. Support is awarded based on the scientific merit of each submitted proposal as reviewed through BIPI's Investigator Initiated Studies review process. The IIS Program is offered to all U.S. academic and community based scientists who are interested in conducting their own research.

Prior to submitting a proposal, specific information about the investigator and the affiliated organization must be gathered in order to initiate a Mutual Confidentiality Disclosure Agreement (MCDA). Please contact the BIPI Medical IIS Office by calling 877-757-7354 for more information and assistance. Information related to BIPI's areas of research interest and the requirements for submitting a proposal can be found by clicking on the related link below.

Respiratory

Cardiovascular

Oncology

Endocrinology

While the research interests listed within the therapeutic areas are of focus to BIPI, other novel research interests may be considered.

Once a MCDA has been successfully executed, an invitation will be sent to the investigator to begin an on-line submission process. BIPI will only consider proposals received through the on-line process.

In order for BIPI to determine interest in the IIS concept, the following information will be required in the on-line proposal:

  • Full title of the study
  • Name and contact information of the principle investigator
  • Study rationale
  • Study objectives
  • Study design
  • Statistical methods
  • Data Management Plan/System
  • Requested Support (Drug only, Funding or both)
  • Drug Supply Request (BIPI Drug and/or non-BIPI Drug)
  • Preliminary Budget (including Total Direct and Indirect and Pass-through Fees)

Submission of a preliminary proposal does not imply or guarantee approval. All proposals will be reviewed based on scientific merit and available funding.
