Chronic Obstructive Respiratory Disease (COPD)

The following areas are of research interest:

  • Measures of exercise endurance (e.g. cycle-ergometry, treadmill, walk or step tests) and physical activity and how this may translate to activities of daily living in COPD
  • Health care utilization associated with exacerbations and hospitalizations and transition of care for COPD exacerbations
  • Community practice interventions and the impact of increased community practice awareness and screening on diagnosis and management of COPD and adherence to COPD therapy
  • Impact of other chronic diseases (e.g. cardiovascular, diabetes, anxiety/depression) on the diagnosis, management and outcomes of COPD and vice versa
  • Novel clinical endpoints, biomarkers/inflammatory markers & diagnostic tools for use in COPD or other respiratory diseases
  • Mechanistic studies on the use of anticholinergics (tiotropium) with other (respiratory) drugs and other modes of action, e.g. anti-inflammatory, in the context of COPD or other respiratory diseases
  • COPD patient phenotypes or subgroups of the COPD population
